During the last week of April, I was able to watch a skit based on the parable about the Good Samaritan. This was the Bible lesson for the day and the kids seemed to really enjoy it. There are a lot of methods for teaching a lesson. The staff at Pilgrim is always looking for ways to make the lesson memorable.

Visiting an abandoned building in Simferopol
During the first week of May, our team visited an abandoned construction site near the Simferopol train station. There were children "hanging out" on the roof. Some ran away when they saw us approach. Others recognized Denis and Andrei from the Pilgrim staff and came down to give us a tour. As you can see several wanted their picture take. Many hid when they saw cameras. The smell of smoke and alcohol was heavy in the building and on the children. Please pray for these children and our staff as they reach out to them.

Meet Luba
Luba (standing on the left) is a very busy member of the Pilgrim staff. Here she teaches the Girls’ Club to make macrame bracelets. Her law degree allows her to advocate for the children and help them navigate through Ukraine’s official registration paperwork. Plus, she has three girls from Pilgrim living with her in a three room apartment.

Weekly Girls' Club Meeting
A Girls’ Club is now meeting weekly at Pilgrim (Project Sasha.) The meetings include games and lessons in make-up, modest dress, sewing, crafts and cooking. I’m sure some of the meetings are more popular than others. But, the main point is to build relationships and introduce the girls to Christ. That can be done even while you’re peeling potatoes.

Sep-Oct Trip Report- 3
The boy on the left just got about 40 years added to his life expectancy. Maxim was living with a homeless group in downtown Simferopol. He had run away from his home and from his abusive step-father. Denis convinced him to come to Pilgrim for food. He also got a second chance at life. The staff contacted his mother and made arrangements for Maxim to return home and live with his grandmother. Plus, he got an up-close, personal look at God's love in action.

Sep-Oct Trip Report- 1
Pilgrim staff member Denis (right) invited this boy to come with him for food, a bath and clean clothes. He was already (about three pm) too strung out on glue to understand what was being said. Denis will continue to visit with him and try to break through.
